How much can you apply for?

Two types of contract duration and support are available depending on the year the call is published:

Category 1

For calls for proposals to be published every year until 2020, applicants can apply for two-year projects for which the maximum grant per project is EUR 100 000 for the 2 years.

Category 2

For calls for proposals published in December 2013 and 2018, applicants can apply for framework partnership agreements (FPA) which last 3 years. The maximum grant is EUR 100 000 per yearper specific agreement awarded under the framework partnership agreement.

Financial contributions from the EU cannot exceed 50% of the total eligible costs of the project.

What does it support

The scheme offers grants to eligible publishers for the co-financing of the translation, publication and promotion of a "package" of minimum 3 and maximum 10 works of fiction. The translation must be from, and into, eligible languages and either the source or the target language must be officially recognised in an EU Member States or an EFTA country.

The translation and promotion of books from lesser used languages into English, French, German or Spanish is encouraged as it increases the visibility of the books in Europe and beyond. The translation of books for which the authors have won the EU Prize for Literature is also encouraged.

The scheme is open to publishers and publishing houses with least 2 years of existence established in the EU or in other countries participating in the Creative Europe programme

Eligibility conditions are detailed in the guidelines of the call.

All applications are evaluated on the basis of eligibility, exclusion, selection and award criteria indicated in the guidelines.

The award criteria concern:

  • Relevance of the project to the objectives of the call
  • Quality of the content and activities
  • Promotion and communication
  • Automatic points will be granted for each book for which its author has won the EU Prize for Literature.
