Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation
Overview
This foundation is set up in the memory of Sir Stanley Matthews, the former Stoke and Blackpool footballer.
Applications can be made personally, on behalf of an individual, or on behalf of a group. All applications will be considered by the Foundation but there is a definite preference for Staffordshire. The Foundation gaves a proportion of its small funds each year to the Staffordshire Community Foundation.
They wish to continue the outstanding work Sir Stan did with young people throughout the world. If you feel your, or someone else’s sporting achievements or enjoyment, are being held back due to financial problems, then then encourage applications for a grant.
A definite preference is assumed for Stoke but there may be potential for other applicants from organisations keen to assist young footballers playing the game. No other guidelines available. The assumption is grant levels will be very modest.
In the past we have made grants to support the purchase of equipment. The emphasis our work has now shifted even further towards coaching and it is very unlikley that we will fund the purchase of equipment. Therefore we urge that all new applications should have a coaching focus.
In addition, applications should also meet the following criteria:
- Individual applications should be made by (or on behalf of) people under the age of 21
- Individual applicants should live within a 20 mile radius of Stoke-on-Trent or Blackpool
- Organisations or clubs should cater for young people under the age of 21
- Organisations or clubs making an application should be withing a 20 mile radius of Stoke-on-Trent or Blackpool
- At least 12 months should have passed since a previous, successful application
