Derry City & Strabane District Council: Walled City - 400 Years Event Funding
Overview
March 2019 will mark the 400th anniversary of the completion of the Walls. To maximise this opportunity Derry City & Strabane District Council and its partners The Honourable, The Irish Society, the builders and owners of the Walls and Department of Communities, Historic Environment Division have identified Walled City 400 Years as a key theme for events programming from September 2018 to March 2020.
The recently launched Tourism Strategy (2018-2025) has identified that the region has standout heritage destination potential. It stresses that a collaborative approach is required in order for this potential to be realised and highlights the ‘Walled City’ as a key proposition to attract international visitors to the city & region.
In order to assist with creating a full and vibrant programme for this significant heritage led opportunity a dedicated funding stream has been made available by Council and its partners to support events that deliver on this theme. Events and activities large and small could add depth and variety to the Walled City 400 Years programme.
What do they want to fund?
They are now seeking applications for heritage related programmes and events, on and around the Walls, that could support the Walled City – 400 years programme and to contribute to the objectives below:
- A standout heritage destination to attract international visitors to the city & region
- To bring to life and share our stories on and beyond the walls
- Experiential Tourism – discovery based
- Economic Returns – spend & dwell time
- Global Platforms – Position the Walls as an Iconic Attraction of note
- A wider sense of belonging and ownership of the walls for all our citizens
Council aims to co-ordinate and develop a collaborative marketing programme to support any planned activity.
This call will relate to projects / events taking place in the financial year 1st April 2019 – March 2020.
Projects / events taking place will be supported up to a maximum of £2,000 and all financial spend of your proposed event must be spent and vouched by 31st March 2020.
