Open (with deadline for applications) Black and minority ethnic Communities Dependants and carers Miscellaneous Offenders and ex-offenders organisational development Great Britain Northern Ireland Large (over £60,000) Medium (up to £60,000) Small (up to £10,000)

Overview

In 2025, their focus is on young women and girls with a history of offending or who are at a high risk of registering a first offence.

Projects will need to demonstrate age, gender, trauma, and culturally responsive approaches to working with young women and girls.

They are particularly interested in projects that provide peer support from women with lived experience and projects that have been co-designed with the voices of young women and girls.

Funding

  • Grants between £10,000 and £80,000 over 12 months to two years are available.
  • The amount of funding requested must be proportional to the project being undertaken
  • A maximum of £40,000 per year can be requested.

Sectors they support

Community and voluntary organisations who can demonstrate a track record of working with young people in contact with the criminal justice system or vulnerable hard to engage young people on the edge of the criminal justice system.

They support not for profit organisations working anywhere within the UK, with a registered UK office.

They particularly welcome applications from organisations working in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Funding Rounds

They hold two grants rounds per year.

This year, they are looking for proposals wanting to work with

  • young women and girls who have been in the criminal justice system
  • or who are at a high risk of entering it.

Please read their criteria closely for their definition of what they mean by this as they will not fund diversionary activities that address issues such as anti-social behaviour.

The application process has two stages. Following the submission of your initial online application, it will be reviewed by their staff team and shortlisted applicants will be asked to host an assessment visit with their Director. This is an opportunity to find out more about the work you do and the project you would like them to support.

To ensure that they support the projects that best fit their strategy, they visit more organisations than they can fund as they want to meet you in person rather than just reading about what you do in your application. Their Trustees then have the difficult job of deciding which applications they will go on to support with funding.

Applicant Criteria

  1. Applicants must be a registered charity, a not-for-profit social enterprise or a community interest company working within the UK, with a UK office.
  2. Social enterprise and community interest companies must have a governing document which shows their name, aim/purpose, objects of the group, including a dissolution clause - what happens if your group ceases to function.
    • This clause should show that you are a not-for-profit group by confirming that any assets remaining after all debts are paid will be given to another voluntary group with similar aims.
    • This document should also include details of your Trustees/Directors or management committee.
  3. Applicants must demonstrate in their application how they have expertise and a history of working with young women and girls caught up in the criminal justice system.
  4. There is no maximum annual income threshold for this funding.
  5. Applicants must have their annual accounts independently examined or audited.
  6. Applicants already in receipt of a grant can only apply for further funding if they are in the final year of their grant, even if they are applying for a different project.

Community and voluntary organisations will need to demonstrate a track record of working with young people caught in the criminal justice system or vulnerable hard to engage young people on the edge of the criminal justice system.

They support not for profit organisations working anywhere within the UK, with a registered UK office.

Eligible Expenditure

Their funding is designed to support projects working directly with young people and the criminal justice system.

They are not able to solely support the core costs of an organisation working in this area. They will however, consider reasonable contributions to the running of your organisation as part of the overall budget you develop for your project.
