Overview

This investment aims to enable athletes to train in order to maximise potential.  Those applying will be required to demonstrate that their circumstances have changed or need to change significantly to allow them to adequately prepare for competition or the national high-performance programme.

This investment is in line with Sport NI’s Corporate Plan and Strategic Outcome 2; ‘Our athletes among the best in the World’ by targeting athletes who have the potential to achieve success and excel in Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games.

Governing Bodies of sports will be responsible for nominating athletes for the Athlete Awards. Applications submitted directly from athletes will not be considered.

These awards operate on an annual basis. The 2024-25 awards Mid-Year review nomination period opened 16th August 2024 and closed 30th August 2024.

Governing Bodies who did not apply at the annual stage of the Award nomination in March may now submit an application at this Mid-Year Point. Governing Bodies who did apply at the annual stage of the Award nomination in March may also make amendments and apply for additional athletes via an application to their current award.

Successful nominations can expect to receive the award in advance of the expenditure period; any new applications will be pro rata with an instalment in October 2024.
