Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT): Landfill Communities Fund
Overview
Under the Landfill Communities Fund, funding is directed to projects which provide and improve public amenities for communities near to a landfill operation. In addition, it funds projects that increase or maintain biodiversity. As of May 2016, relevant landfill sites in Northern Ireland are limited to Newtownabbey and Ballyclare.
Funding can be requested for community and environmental projects that comply with the objects contained in the Landfill Tax Regulations. Full details of these objects are available in the Environmental Body (EB) Guidance Manual at www.entrust.org.uk.
What funding is available?
There is no minimum grant amount. The maximum grant available to any project is also unlimited but is dependent on available funding from the contributing landfill operator. Some landfill operators restrict the maximum amount of funding to £100,000. You will be advised of the potential amount of funding available during the initial vetting period.
What is meant by in the vicinity of a landfill site?
For a project to be classed as ‘in the vicinity’ it should be within ten miles of a licensed landfill site as the crow files. If a project is however not within ten mile radius, if the project applicant is able to provide evidence that the project site is adversely impacted by activity from a licensed landfill site that is further than ten miles away, we will consider your evidence with the ENTRUST, the LCF regulator.
