Overview

The Community Development Grants Scheme is funded primarily by the Department for Social Development's Voluntary and Community Unit, through the Community Support Programme, with a financial contribution from the Council. The scheme opens for applications at least once per year, usually in April, and is publically advertised. There are two types of grant are available: Seeding Grants - £200 maximum: Available on a once only basis to local groups in their initial and formative stage. May be used to offset incidental costs such as telephone charges, venue hire, advertising, stationery and postage etc... Projects Grants - £500 maximum: Available to groups seeking to address a particular issue or activity within designated areas of activity. Each project application must explicitly and substantively illustrate how it addresses at least one of the following:

  • Research and consultation: aimed at identifying local community needs and aspirations.
  • Training and Education: to facilitate capacity building at local community level, and empowering participants to contribute effectively to the process of community development.
  • Community Activity: to help contribute to the development and sustainability of local community infrastructure, participation and social inclusion.

Community Festivals FundThe Community Festivals Fund (CFF) was established in 2006 in recognition of the potential contribution that festivals could make to communities, to the local economy and wider Government policy priorities. The CFF grants scheme is funded equally by the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure and North Down Borough Council. The fund enables Community Organisations to celebrate their cultural identity and to strengthen community relations. The grants scheme opens for applications at least once per year, usually in April and is publically advertised.
