Community Growing ‘Let’s Grow NMD’ projects must complement the programme aims and objectives as outlined below.

Biodiversity focused projects should apply to the Local Biodiversity Enhancement theme.

The Council will only consider one application per organisation for the Community Growing ‘Let’s Grow NMD’ programme.

Please note if applying under Community Growing ‘Let’s Grow NMD’ under Basic Eligibility projects MUST:

  • Enclose the identity of the landowner(s).
  • Enclose proof of written permission, where available, for use of the land from the landowner(s). Programme – Community Growing ‘Let’s Grow NMD’

Threshold: Grants are between £500 minimum and £1,500 maximum

Latest project end date: All project activity MUST be completed no later than 18th March 2025. Please note: Claims must be submitted within six-weeks of the chosen project end date or the letter of offer will automatically be withdrawn, and the funds redistributed.

Aim:

This funding is to promote and develop Community Growing for food growing – i.e. fruit and vegetable growing. Projects should be principally based on fruit and/or vegetable community growing and not solely for flower or non-edible plant growing, memorial gardens or sensory gardens.

Objectives:

  • To support and promote community growing (food growing) within the District.
  • To support community-based groups to develop their community growing sites.
  • To support community growing groups to:
    • Purchase tools and equipment for their activities.
    • Purchase seeds, plants, compost, soil and other items essential to community growing activities.
  • To support the establishment and upkeep of community orchards.

Eligible costs

  • Tools and equipment used for community growing activities.
  • Pots, compost, seeds, plants, bulbs and similar items.
  • Materials for building raised beds and similar growing areas.
  • Equipment which can be demonstrated to be essential for the running of community growing.
  • A maximum contribution of 75% towards costs of greenhouse or similar structures.
  • A maximum contribution of 75% towards costs of shed or storage containers.
  • One-off event insurance linked to the project is eligible or, if applicable, part payment of annual insurance. Please note the part payment should be proportionate to the activity taking place (and must be pre-agreed with the Programmes Unit prior to claiming).
