IBM On Demand Community Grants

Overview

The UK Community Grants programme is designed to support the 3,800+ IBM employees and the 180+ IBM retirees who have already registered as volunteers for the on demand community programme.

Grant applications must be for a specific project or activity in the applicants local community (work / activities taking place abroad are not eligible). Projects such as the following would be considered eligible:

* Computer literacy
* Reading / language skills
* Mathematics / science
* Transition-to-work programmes (career development)
* Student assessment programmes
* Curriculum development programmes

Cash Grants

Maximum cash grants are up to £650 (where an ODC tool has been used) or £325 (if an ODC tool has NOT been used). Expense justification such as an estimate may be required.

Equipment

If you have NOT used an On Demand Community solution then you may apply for a grant of one item of equipment (server or a printer). If you have used an On Demand Community solution you may apply for a grant of two items of equipment (server, printer) OR a single KidSmart unit.

Team Grants

To qualify for a team award a group of at least three IBM employees and / or retirees must volunteer with an eligible organisation for at least 5 months and for a minimum average of eight hours monthly. Please note: each individual team member must have completed a minimum of 40 hours volunteering and recorded it on the On Demand Community site.

Mentor Place Grants

IBM MentorPlace is a key component of IBM’s overall commitment to education and young people. To encourage programme participation, IBM MentorPlace has its own set of Community Grants eligibility rules which differ from rules governing grants for other volunteer activities.

* A group of participating employees, working in partnership with an individual teacher, can donate a cash grant, for educational purposes to that school for use in the programme.
* Volunteers and the teacher must commit to the project for a full school year
* Equipment donations are made after at least six months of successful participation (as determined by the IBM CCR manager, based upon quality and compliance with time and correspondence commitments, etc.)

Each school is eligible to receive up to £650 per academic year, per MentorPlace Project, up to a maximum of 2 grants per year OR up to 4 items of equipment (server or printer from approved list) OR 3 KidSmart Young Explorer units.
