European Foundations' funding for Initiative on Dementia
Overview
The European Foundations Iniative on Dementia (EFID) is composed of The Atlantic Philanthropies, the Médéric Alzheimer Foundation, the King Baudouin Foundation and the Robert Bosch Stiftung and is a new NEF (Network of European Foundations) initiative on dementia at the European level, under the chairmanship of the Atlantic Philanthropies.
The EFID has decided to organise this call to reward initiatives promoting the integration and support of people with dementia and their carers in the local community through a large range of activities.
The overarching aim of the project is to improve the perception of dementia and to stimulate solidarity at local
level in order to contribute to a better quality of life of people with dementia and their carers. The project seeks to achieve:
- A beginning of change in the society’s perception of dementia
- To support people at local level to help them better integrate their neighbours with dementia in their communities
- To help people with dementia and their carers to participate more fully in their communities
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible projects should demonstrate that they:
- are innovative or “appropriate” in the local or regional context;
- could be an example for dissemination of good practices;
- are designed in partnership and developed through a strong network of partners;
- are supported by the relevant decision makers and/or other significant partners;
- are easily accessible to the users
- have a long-term perspective and can be sustained;
- have existed for at least 2 years;
- have an impact in the home country and/or community;
- are not for profit.
There will be up to 10 projects funded with up to €10.000 and Award winners should be engage with other awardees and participate in common project workshops, public relations work and evaluation processes.
Example projects that the Living well with Dementia in the Community call could support include:
- Support encounters between people with and without dementia;
- Support the daily and practical tasks, and encourage neighbourly assistance to be more community active and reduce their isolation;
- Give people with dementia a stronger "voice", for empowerment purposes
- Raise public awareness about the topic
Who can apply
Community based organisations in places where people with dementia and their families could live well and be active participants in then community.
