Drinkaware Grants Programme
Overview
This is your chance to be part of the solution by increasing people’s knowledge of alcohol and associated risks, while also building up their skills to improve decision making and resistance to negative influences.
To achieve this, we not only seek initiatives which increase people’s knowledge, but those which enhance the skills to use it and consequently take control of their actions with such things as communicating with their children about alcohol or comprehending their own consumption.
We favour work which engages people intensively and interactively, but only in those cases where plans are present from day one regarding future continuation, expansion or enhancement. Our grants not only facilitate strong projects in isolation, but aim to form foundations on which to build, taking the work to the next level.
None of this can happen, of course, unless you can also evaluate your work. So you must consider outcomes, and the means of measuring them, which can prove behaviour change and altered outlooks, not merely increase what people know. Grants may in part fund external agencies to assist with this.
Grants are available to organizations in any part of the UK, working with any population group. So, if you think your project fits this description and you are committed to making a difference, please read on.
If it’s a one-off that just conveys raw facts, however, it will need further consideration.
Who can apply?
Constituted not for profit organisations wanting to raise awareness about the impact and effects of alcohol misuse and advance alcohol education with individuals and communities.
We accept applications from:
- Registered charities
- Not for profit bodies such as social enterprises or community interest companies
Please note: We are unlikely to fund organisations with an annual turnover exceeding £10 million or with free reserves exceeding 18 months.
Project costs, which may include educational resources, contributions to the salaries of new staff, venue or equipment hire, transport and training relevant to the specific aims of the project – note that we are unlikely to cover just one of the above, as we want our contributions to generate impact as well as the whole project
- Alcohol education work – which could take the form of workshops, accredited and unaccredited learning, combinations of alcohol education with sport or performance of some kind
- New media and other creative initiatives which may include theatre in education projects, film and music. However, such projects must show they deliver impact in terms of alcohol awareness raising and have this as the principle outcome. It is not enough to run an arts or drama project which touches on alcohol or simply uses it as a theme.
- Production or purchase of educational resources, provided these are not the sole reason for the grant, they contribute to a project rather than core activity and do not duplicate Drinkaware materials.
- Innovative work, pilot work and the wider roll-out of successful ways of working
How to Apply
We want to ensure that our funding schemes reach the right organisations at the right time and have created a rolling grants programme with no application deadlines.
Please bear in mind that you should apply at least two months before your project is due to start to give us time to make a decision, longer if you are planning to apply for a larger grant.
We are always happy to give advice informally before you make an application, or during the application process, either over the phone on 020 7766 9900 or by email to Andy Law at alaw@drinkaware.co.uk.
We strongly advise that you call us before applying to discuss your proposal, particularly if you are planning to apply for a larger grant.
All applications for funding should be made by filling in our Application Form which is available to download from our website or by emailing alaw@drinkaware.co.uk
