Comic Relief UK: Special Initiatives
Overview
Vulnerable Refugees
No one chooses to be a refugee but many are forced to seek protection in the UK. This initiative aims to encourage a more accurate, fair and efficient decision-making process as well as safeguard the provision of quality legal advice, giving people seeking refugee status a more secure future.
Mental Health
People living with mental health problems face stigma and discrimination every day. This initiative aims to empower those affected to tackle discrimination and play an active role in their communities, as well as improving attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems.
Young People and Sexual Exploitation
It is becoming increasingly clear just how widespread the sexual exploitation of young people and children is. This initiative aims to ensure a commitment to, and responsibility for, addressing this issue from local authorities and UK governments. We aim to develop sustainable long-term models for supporting young people at risk and push for their nationwide implementation. We also aim to increase the safety of young people who are particularly vulnerable to sexual exploitation, starting with those with learning disabilities.
Dementia
We believe that enabling people with dementia to speak out and change the way they are perceived can have a profound impact on their quality of life. This initiative aims to support and increase the number of groups for people with dementia, as well as work with them to develop their influencing skills and get their voices heard.
Looked-After Young People
We’re currently exploring how we can contribute to improving the outcomes for young people in, or at the edge of, care. More details on this initiative will be available in early 2014.
