Childwick Trust
Overview
The Trust has four main priority areas:
Disability, Elderly and Serious Illness
The Trust has a strong emphasis on helping charities which offer care and support for people who are terminally ill, or have a serious illness, the elderly, adults and children who have mental health problems or a learning disability. We give help to both children and adults with physical disabilities and offer funding towards specialist equipment, respite care, holidays, education and core costs.
They support both adult and children's Hospices specifically those based in the South East of the UK and funding is given to all aspects of hospice care including running costs.
They help the elderly who are vulnerable and isolated and in need. Funding is offered towards respite for carers, general care and support plus specialist equipment.
Please note that applications from National charities will only be considered for the benefit of people in the South East of England.
They are happy to consider funding from organisations who offer care and support for ex-servicemen and women who have been injured or traumatised from past and recent conflicts.
Medical research projects form only a small part of what they fund.
Within the above criteria we will consider support for specialist equipment, salaries which are related to nursing and general care. We will consider funding towards some building and refurbishment costs but only once the appeal has reached at least half of the total budget.
N.B. Around half the Trust's grants are distributed under this Object. Typically grants range from £5,000 - £30,000.
Horseracing
The major portion of funding under this Object is given to the welfare of those in need within the racing industry. This is generally aimed at people who are elderly and retired, injured and those on a low income plus young people who need support.
Other applications outside this area may be considered as long as it is related to either the welfare of people in the industry or connected to the welfare of Thoroughbred Race Horses.
Jewish Charities
Mr. Joel (the founder) was Jewish and his wish was to benefit charities which promote the Jewish faith and to help Jewish people in need. We consider applications from Jewish charities throughout the UK that help the elderly, disabled adults and children and young people. Please note payments are only made to benefit charities in the UK and not in Israel.
South Africa
The Trust also operates in South Africa. This area of our Objects reflects the Joel family's long involvement in the mining industry in South Africa. Predominantly funds are given to Early Childhood Development Projects and applications are administered on behalf of The Directors by Giuliana Bland at The Childwick Trust’s Jim Joel Fund in South Africa.
