Overview

Belfast City Council are investing £250,000 in ten large scale creative projects which aim to help the city become a shared cultural space and one that is peaceful and welcoming to everyone.

The Creative Legacies programme is a key part of the Belfast Peace and Reconciliation Plan, funded by the Peace and Reconciliation Programme for Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of the Republic of Ireland (PEACE III).

The Creative Legacies programme will also lead to the creation of six new pieces of public art across the city and fund an important piece of research examining the impact of artistic activity on community development – as well as producing an educational resource and a conference, exploring the impact of the arts in communities and showcasing best practice.

Creative Legacies is a creative development and outreach programme that aims to contribute to the development of Belfast as a shared cultural space and help it to become a strong, vibrant city as well as a peaceful, welcoming and open place.

Organisations must be formally constituted to apply to the Creative Legacies Programme.

Creative Legacies will be community driven and community focused. It will encourage community groups and arts organisations from across Belfast to work together. There must be a lead applicant, working in partnership with a minimum or two other organisations.

The Programme will lead to the creation of:

  • A creative legacies forum dedicated to the development of Community Arts as a tool for social cohesion in Belfast.
  • 10 large scale creative development and outreach projects across Belfast
  • The development of 6 new pieces of Public Art across Belfast
  • the creation of a body of research and evaluation on the impact of arts on community development
  • A project publication showcasing the work achieved on the project
  • A Belfast conference exploring the impact of the Arts in Communities and providing live showcase opportunities for the work created throughout the programme
