BBC Performing Arts Fund: Community Theatre
Overview
Vision
Community theatre groups are made up of non-professional performers. They are drawn from members of the local community. They may be any age and engage any genre of theatre.
We are looking for groups who are ambitious, willing to take on a challenge and looking for ways to increase their group’s confidence and motivation and to raise their profile in the local community.
Applying for a grant from us should allow groups to really think about what they need at this point – do they need new members, new audiences, to take on something more ambitious? Would a grant from us allow them to build the group’s confidence and motivation, leading to a more resilient and sustainable group?
We wish to fund projects that will benefit not only the groups themselves but also the wider community. So this may be an opportunity to put on that performance you have always wanted to or to run an absolute beginners course or take your theatre outside of the rehearsal hall and into the community.
We hope to hear the voice of the members of the groups in the application, and that they will be fully behind the project. We hope that the groups will take up the challenge offered by receiving a grant and use it to ensure that the group has a more confident and resilient future.
Groups may apply for up to £5,000 for a development project or for a project which includes the commission of a new piece of theatre created by a specified professional theatre maker chosen by the group. The minimum grant given will be £500. We expect the average grant to be below the maximum.
You may apply for up to £5,000. if you require more funding we suggest you apply both to us and other funders too. We don't require that we are the sole funder of a project.
