Overview

They believe that discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities violates basic human rights, but also hampers broader development. Tackling discrimination can lead to fairer, more just communities and allows for development that benefits all in society equally.

They have a long term interest in gender development and under the new programme we have a specific interest in supporting organisations that address discrimination against lesbian and transgender individuals and communities.

Local civil society can and does lead the way in addressing these forms of discrimination and disadvantage – their funding is designed to support their work, rather than determine their agenda. During 2015, they will focus on funding established and emerging participatory grantmakers, who are rooted in their community and involve activists in their decision making.

The first grants under this programme were awarded to UHAI EASHRI and the Other Foundation in June 2015.
