Antigone Foundation
Overview
The Antigone Foundation are a small organisation interested in helping in some small way to reshape the way we view, treat and look after people who have broken the law.
By working with a small number of charities each year, they hope to learn more about the needs of the people they support, and to think about the place of charity in society. They promote their successes to ministers and the press. They realize they can't do this on their own, and are building alliances to work collaboratively with other independent funders and organizations.
The foundation promote the needs of philanthropy to fund work in this area which is currently unfashionable and underfunded. They look for projects that...
- Prevent people consistently breaking the law
- Create positive options in life for people who break the law
- Measure their successes in convincing ways
Decisions about grants are made at board meetings held by trustees at their discretion. They have a range of experience in business, law, communications and running charities and foundations.
The foundation want to change the prevalent "hang em and flog em" attitude and create better options than reoffending for people leaving prison and increase awareness of positive alternatives for people breaking the law than prison.
