999 Partnership Charity of the Year
Overview
Northern Ireland's 999 Emergency Services, Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Her Majesty's Coastguard have joined together to raise money each year for a chosen charity
In 2008 the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC) was chosen.
All funds raised will be used by NICFC to develop a first of its kind new cancer support service for children and young people who have a parent living with cancer, as well as help finance the purchase of a property to extend the NICFC Shimna Valley Retreat in Newcastle, Co. Down.
Paul Leighton, Deputy Chief Constable stated the following on launching the 999 Charity Partnership:
"Choosing a charity is always extremely difficult and there are so many very worthy causes needing support. To achieve this, colleagues across all four organisations were provided with the opportunity to vote for their charity of the year. The partnership clearly creates a unique opportunity to raise a substantial amount of money for the charity. To this end, we have created a very exciting opportunity.
