NICVA is proud to be the backbone of Northern Ireland's voluntary and community sector, with 1,421 members making us the largest membership organisation.
Our latest Impact Report for 2024 is more than just a document—it's a testament to the incredible power and potential of our sector. From grassroots initiatives to transformative projects, this report showcases the remarkable achievements and stories of resilience that have shaped our journey over the past year.

NICVA strengthens Northern Ireland's voluntary and community sector at every level. We develop skilled leaders, build effective organisations, and unite the sector's voice on key issues.
Our work is themed under four broad strategic areas of Support, Influence, Develop and Invest. Below are some examples of work we carried out, with our full report giving a much deeper insight into the difference this work has made within Northern Ireland.
1. SUPPORT
- Accreditation: Professional development through TQUK, ILM, and OCN NI.
- Training: 70 sessions for 747 participants, in a wide range of areas such as coaching; leadership & management; cyber security; risk assessment; fundraising and succession planning.
- Courses: 13 accredited courses with over 400 learners.
- Fundraising: Provided regular advice, funding information, and relevant training, including GrantTracker.
- Tailored Support: 102 support sessions in governance, fundraising, HR, and impact.
2. INFLUENCE
- Policy Engagement: Responded to public consultations, including the 2024-25 Budget EQIA.
- Events: 48 policy engagement events with 828 attendees.
- Representation: NICVA staff sat on over 50 committees.
- Campaigns: Coordinated campaigns on the Value of the Sector and Sustainable Funding- including the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
- Partnerships: Established the first All-Party Group for the Voluntary & Community Sector.
3. DEVELOP
- Governance Support: Secretariat to the Developing Governance Group.
- Future Thinking Summit: Hosted a summit with 378 attendees.
- Youth Work Transformation: In partnership with 12 youth organisations, engaged over 200 people on this issue.
- Workforce Report: Published a report on key workforce issues.
4. INVEST
- Values: Updated values to Caring, Courage, Commitment, Collaboration.
- Governance Review: Conducted a NICVA governance and organisational review to ensure we are fit for purpose now and in the future.
- Well-being: Hosted regular well-being events for staff.
- Accreditation: Retained Cyber Essentials Plus Accreditation.
- Membership- By collaborating with and championing our members, we provide tailored support, resources, and advocacy to help them achieve their goals and make a lasting impact.
- Free membership to small organisations: NICVA is proud to continue to offer free membership to organisations with an income of less than £20,000, ensuring small and new organisations can invest and develop.
As we reflect on the past year, NICVA's Impact Report 2024 stands as a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose. The stories and successes highlighted in this report are a testament to the dedication and resilience of our members and the communities we serve.
