Strabane Support for Sport

Overview

To achieve this the following priority areas have been identified:

  • Encourage lifelong participation in sport and recreation in Strabane District (including introducing and re-introducing sport to people of all ages).
  • Promote an infrastructure of voluntary sports clubs with adequate skilled personnel to service its needs in coaching and administration.
  • Plan for, provide and manage, to the highest possible standard, sufficient facilities for the needs of sport and recreation in Strabane District.
  • Identify and support Strabane District’s talented performers.
  • Co-ordinate the efforts of Strabane District’s sports providers.
  • Communicate the benefits of participation in sport and recreation and the availability of sporting opportunities in the Strabane District.

Who can apply?

  • Constituted not for profit Sports Clubs that are open, accountable and representative of the geographical area in which it services.
  • Sports Clubs must be affiliated to the Strabane District Sports Forum and are situated in the Strabane District Council area.
  • Activities must be recognised as a sport as outlined on Sport Northern Ireland’s website.
  • Individual applicants will only receive support if no relevant club exists in the area and they are competing at National or International level. This applies to cases where Sports Council for NI grant support has not been secured. All other individuals must apply through their clubs. In this instance the applicant must still apply through their club and if there is more than one applicant, a joint application must be submitted by the club.

Areas Eligible for Funding

Clubs can receive support for one of the following areas ONCE PER YEAR

Team Coaching £400: Recognised coaching in all aspects and high-level training, i.e. County, Provincial, and International. The coach must not be a member of the applicant club.

Coach Education £500: Clubs can apply for costs associated with the provision of generic (non-sport specific) and Governing Body awards that will provide continuous professional development opportunities for coaches within the club.

Major Sporting Events £500: Major sporting events held within Strabane District. Grant aid up to 75% of the estimated cost to the maximum of £500.

Travel (individual) £300 Travel (group) £500: Grant aid will be considered towards the cost of organised competitive events within Ireland and British Isles, for which competitors have qualified at County, Provincial, National or International Level. Ongoing travel costs are not permitted.

Clubs can apply for and additional equipment grant Once Every Three Years.

Equipment £500: Non-personal equipment will be grant aided.
