Overview

The trustees generally regard “young persons” as being persons under the age of 21 years. Applications therefore should only relate to people under the age of 21.

The Trust was founded by the late Captain Elliot. The purposes of the Trust are:

To make grants from the Trust Funds for the benefit of a charitable body or bodies having, as its/their aim(s), the promotion of the mental, physical and social development and of the spiritual well-being of young persons in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and especially of those in poor circumstances.

In accordance with the standard note of information, you will see that the Trustees do have complete discretion as to the level of awards made but it is probably fair to say by way of general guidance, that the Trustees are not likely to make awards at a level of £100/£200 nor indeed at a level of £100,000 or £200,000 at this stage but rather that awards are likely to be made within a broad band extending from around say £3,000 to £25,000 to £30,000. Given the annual income is around the £40,000 mark, one grant of £30,000 would represent a majority of their annual expenditure.

The Trustees generally are minded to make one-off awards for one-off capital projects but there are no hard and fast rules and each appropriately qualifying application will nevertheless be considered on its merits.

Promotion of the mental, physical and social development of young people (under 21) in the UK, especially those in poor circumstances. The Trustees have a wide discretion in how the funds are distributed. An information sheet and application form are available from the above correspondent.

How to Apply

Obtain the application form from the contact. The Trustees anticipate that regular meetings will only be held in May/June annually and you should note to submit an application before then, if it is to be considered at the next Trustees’ meeting. If timing is particularly relevant however, special requests might be made to the Trustees before then

Please note to include all the supporting information requested along with your completed application form. If you do not, the application may not be considered or may be rejected.
