Resourcing Racial Justice Fund
Overview
What funding is available?
- Applicants can apply for grants ranging from £5,000 to £50,000.
- For their first wave of funding they aim to redistribute £500,000 of funding.
They are building a practice that is of both the head and the heart. They have a deep commitment to working with transparency to create structures of accountability. In turn, this will enable radical ideas and investment in inspiring leaders that push for radical alternatives and counter narratives to the current system.
They work with select foundations and private philanthropists with a track record of commitment to racial justice and working equitably and meaningfully with communities of colour. These funders are not decision-makers, rather learning partners to both the coalition and people they fund. The funder Thirty Percy has made the first contribution to the Fund. They will also work with money raised by the public.
What do they fund?
The coalition behind the fund is committed to social and economic justice and solidarity, using community based approaches in line with the people the fund is trying to reach. They fund in solidarity, and support groups and organisations that are historically and currently marginalised.
They fund:
- Projects that meet the immediate needs and/or impact of crisis – be it Covid-19 or otherwise – for communities of colour.
- Ideas that present transformational and radical alternatives that will support people of colour creating solutions for change on a systemic level.
- 'Ecosystem builders' – visionaries that exist between the mainstream and the margins who are working to mobilise connections and resources for the benefit of their communities. This could include: Lived Experience Leaders –POC leaders; activists; community leaders; innovators; change-makers working on racial justice.
- Those with an international perspective, seeking to amplify and build relationships with communities in the global south in order to achieve global change.
NB They welcome projects connected to faith and spirituality.
In the spirit of transparency, funds will be distributed via Help Refugees and Prism the Gift Fund platform. Help Refugees are supporting them through their experience of crowdfunding and disseminating funds in a crisis. (Help Refugees is a restricted fund under Prism the Gift Fund, registered charity no. 1099682.)
