Overview

The RBS Community programmes want to play a positive role in the communities in which they operate. This begins with providing the services their customers want, and operating in a sustainable way. They then aim to go further through community programmes which make a genuine difference in a number of focused areas.

Community Cashback

Community Cashback recognises employees who give their time outside work as regular volunteers or fundraisers in their local community.. An annual award payment of £250 is made to the charities and good causes that employees volunteer and fundraise for in their own time.

In 2013, more than 4000 Community Cashback awards generated £1,093,750 for good causes and charities across the world. Including the money raised by employees, we generated £3,707,656. In 2012, 4,544 awards generated £1,190,500 (or £3,419,384 including employee fund raising).

Community Stars

The Community Stars programme gives employees the opportunity to nominate their colleagues for a Community Star for doing great work for their community and for local causes. Winners receive between £250 and £3,750 for their chosen charity or local community group.

In 2013, they donated £48,500 to community causes with 119 Community Star award-winners.

Payroll Giving

RBS runs a payroll giving scheme in the UK which allows employees to make a tax-free donation to charity direct from their salary. RBS matches payroll giving charitable donations with every £1 donated by an employee matched with a further £1 contribution from RBS up to a cap of £600 per annum. In 2013, an average of 19,144 UK employees contributed a total of £3,513,107and with the £2,177,818 match from RBS this generated £5,795,928 for charities in total.

One Week in June In 2013, colleagues across their businesses, including Ulster Bank and Retail participated in their One Week in June campaign, raising over £115,000 for local charities. One of the main beneficiaries was the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children who received £80,000 from a Henri Hippo fun run around the Northern Ireland branch network.

RBS also supports international emergency appeals.
