Public Health Agency: Southern Councils Health Grants and Community Gardens
Overview
The aim of the Public Health Agency is to improve the health and social well being of the population and to reduce inequalities in health. There are 2 grant schemes available, all of which will be targeted to address health and social well being in those most in need.

There are 2 grant schemes available, all of which will be targeted to address health and social wellbeing among the population living locally. Applicants can apply for funding under both of the schemes detailed below but should note that all projects funded under this grants programme must be completed by 31 March 2013.
Scheme 1 - Small grants - applications are invited for up to £1,500
Applications should focus on one or more of the following:
- Giving every child/ young person the best start in life - for example projects supporting early years; parenting; promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
- Ensure a decent standard of living for all - for example food co-operative schemes; community cafés; addressing food or fuel poverty; initiatives to maximise income.
- Building sustainable communities - for example neighbourhood improvement projects; financial assistance to develop social economy initiatives; projects to develop social inclusion; inter-generational initiatives.
- Making healthier choices easier - for example projects to promote healthy eating and good nutrition and/or physical activity; obesity prevention; emotional health and wellbeing; sexual health; stop smoking and/or drugs and alcohol initiatives.
Scheme 2 - Community Allotments/Community Gardens - applications are invited for up to £3000
Applications under scheme 2 should focus on building sustainable communities through the creation and development of community allotments/ community gardens. Prior to submitting an application form, applicants must attend an information workshop for scheme 2 and should have already secured the use of suitable land for proposed activities.
