OFMDFM Equality and Social Need
Overview
The role of this section of the Research Branch is two-fold. It is our responsibility to promote and provide high quality, inter-disciplinary research, which will advance our knowledge and understanding of the complexities of:
- social need and social exclusion in order to assist policy formulation, implementation and evaluation
- the wider Equality Agenda including the specific groups referred to in Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998).
This research is intended to challenge current policies and practices, promote innovative methods and encourage an interdisciplinary approach.ObjectivesOur main objectives are to:
- promote research which will challenge and influence policy-making on Equality and Social Need;
- improve the transfer of knowledge outside and within Government;
- develop new relationships with the research community; and
- encourage and support independent research on themes in the university, voluntary and community sectors.
