Overview

The European Union Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland (2007-2013), known as the PEACE III Programme, is a distinctive European Union Structural Funds Programme aimed at reinforcing progress towards a peaceful and stable society and promoting reconciliation in Northern Ireland.

North Down Borough Council successfully applied for PEACE III funding and support under the strategic priority of ‘Building Positive Relations’ to provide and contribute towards building positive relations, address divided living and promote shared and integrated communities. The project aims to promote and encourage tolerance, inclusion, understanding and mutual respect between individuals and groups from different traditions within and across the North Down, Ards and Down PEACE III Cluster and the wider PEACE III region.

Resource Allocation

An element of the Building Positive Relations programme is the delivery of a Community Based Resource Allocation. The Resource Allocation Scheme is designed to support community groups across North Down, especially those working at grass roots and local community level. The scheme will enable small community groups to deliver projects which involve people in their communities, bringing them together to promote inclusion, address divided living and encourage positive relations.

Priority will be given to activities that address the strategic priority and can demonstrate a significant impact, tackle issues relating to sectarianism and racism and address divided living. There is a total budget of £10,000 and applicants will be invited to apply for up to a maximum of £1,000 to deliver their project.

Community Resource Allocation will release 80% of funding prior to the start of the project, with the remaining 20% payable on satisfactory completion of the project and on submission of original receipts/invoices, bank statements and evaluation form. All original receipts/invoices must be either till receipts or on company letterhead including unique tax reference. All receipts and invoices must be spent and claims submitted by Friday 29th March 2013 at 4.00pm.
