Overview
They aim to financially assist talented individuals from Ulster in respect of their preparation, development, training and competition in sporting activities recognised by the Trust or by organisations who have appointed the Trust as their representative.
When assessing, competitors of proven ability at junior and senior levels whose standing judged against World, British and Irish standards indicates the potential to compete with credit at national level, international, with distinction in British and Irish Championships.
Awards Criteria
- Eligibility
- Competitors in sports recognised by the Trust are eligible for consideration for awards. These competitors must be affiliated to Governing Bodies recognised by Sport NI
- Applicants must be aged 12 and over other than in exceptional circumstances which will be considered at the discretion of the Directors.
- Applications will not be considered if they are received after the closing date other than in exceptional circumstances which will be considered at the discretion of the directors.
- In team sports, applications must be submitted for individuals based on the potential and need of each team member.
- Applications from individuals competing in Seniors or Veterans events will not be eligible for consideration - other than in exceptional circumstances which will be considered at the discretion of the Directors.
- Recipients of awards must report the result of their targeted event to the Trust and/or Social Media and acknowledge the financial contribution of the Trust.
Awards & Funding Offered
David Magill Coaching Award
- The David Magill Coaching Awards programme supports current and future athletes to realise their own big ambitions, win medals and potentially reach the pinnacle of their
chosen sport. - The deadline for applications is Friday 12th September 2025 at 5.00pm. Submission of application is not a guarantee of an award.

MPT Award
Make it Happen Award
- These annual awards provide two athletes with £2,000. This is funded equally by specialist insurance broker Bluefin Sport and the Mary Peters Trust. Athletes should apply for their proposed specialist training and/or coaching that will ‘Make It Happen’ in their sporting career.
GLL Funding
- Eligibility: These competitors must be affiliated to Sporting Governing Bodies recognised by Sport NI and reside in the Belfast City Council area. Applicants must be aged 12 and over.
- Those competitors of proven ability at junior and senior levels whose standing judged against World, British and Irish standards indicates potential to compete with credit at international level or with distinction in British and Irish Championships.
