Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize
Overview
£35,000 is awarded in prize money with the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize being £20,000 along with an engraved gold medal, a Second Prize of £4,000 and there is a Young Artist Prize of £4,000 for artists 25 years or under. In addition there is the Brian Botting award of £5,000 for an artist aged 30 or under for an outstanding drawing of the human figure and a DAphne Todd prize of £2000.
The Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize is open to living artists over the age of 18, who are resident in the British Isles.
There are over 1000 entries each year. About 90 of these (never before exhibited elsewhere) are shortlisted for the Prize by an independent panel of judges, generally including an art critic, a gallery owner and a young artist. These are displayed in an exhibition which has become a showcase of outstanding contemporary portraiture, landscape and still life painting from artists throughout the UK.
The exhibition is hung at the Mall Galleries which provides a career enhancing opportunity for young artists to exhibit their work alongside members of the Royal Academy. In addition, during the exhibitions, they host a number of events including art master classes and lectures.
