Lottery: Multi Annual Programme (MAP)
Overview
Funding will be for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
- If you are an organisation which requires from £10,001 to £20,000 per annum to run your programme then this is the programme for you.
- If you require more than £20,000 you should apply to the Annual Support for Organisations Programme.
- Organisations seeking a grant up to £10,000 should consider the Arts Council’s Small Awards Scheme which will be launched in May 2005. Further information about the scheme can be obtained from the Arts Council.
Organisations planning short term or fixed term projects, or single or annual events, should consult with Arts Council staff about the range of National Lottery schemes available: Access to the Arts, Audience Development, New Work, Capital, and Equipment. Individuals should consult with Arts Council staff about the Arts Council’s Support for Individual Artists Programme.
- Local authorities, registered charities and other organisations which cannot distribute profits may apply for funds.
- Commercial organisations can only apply for support if the project is primarily for the benefit of the public rather than their own commercial interests.
- Arts organisations with a year-round programme
- Organisations offering substantial arts programming
- If your organisation has a limited membership, or is a school, college or university, you must show that the project will benefit the wider public.
- Public sector agencies can apply for projects which are outside their statutory remit.
- Organisations currently in receipt of any other Lottery grants which can demonstrate that the project is additional to any programme already funded.
You may apply for (a) a grant towards your overall programme or (b) a specific and discrete element of the whole programme.

Any premium payment awarded will be on the same percentage basis as the main award.
Through this Multi-Annual Programme, the Arts Council wishes to support organisations that help meet its strategic objectives (see the Arts Council’s five year arts plan 2001-2006). The following 4 criteria have been designed to underpin many of those objectives. The Arts Council will assess your programme against these criteria:
- Criterion 1: Quality of either arts activities or provision of services (eg. in the case of umbrella organisations or non-programme based resource centres).
- Criterion 2: Public benefit and strategic impact.
- Criterion 3: Financial viability, quality of management
- Criterion 4: Partnership Funding
It is very important that you think carefully about how your programme satisfies these criteria and use the application form to demonstrate this. Your programme must meet all the above criteria.
