Lord Barnby's Foundation
Overview
The General Fund is not subject to any restrictions, and the capital and income of this fund can be applied to charitable purposes at the discretion of Trustees for anywhere in the UK.
The fund was established by the late Rt Hon Vernon Baron Barnby. Following the death of Lady Barnby on 2 November 1988 the residue of her estate, after payment of certain legacies, was added to the Charity.
Grants and discretionary donations of £1,000 to £10,000 are available. The majority are for under £2,000 and the trust awards a round figure amount.
They mostly fund :
- General Charitable Purposes
- The advancement of health or saving of lives
- Disability
The prevention or relief of poverty - Animals
- Environment/conservation/heritage
The main categories of beneficiares are -
- Children/young people
- Elderly/old people
- People with disabilities
Example Grants
The grants made in 2016 show little evidence of organisations from Northern Ireland being successful but then it isn't known how many organisations here made an application. It is evidenced that most grants are awarded to English based charities.
NB Recent direct information from the trust also seems to be to the effect that they fund in England only although accounts show them as being able to fund in the UKL and elsewhere at thier discretion. Currently researching....
