Overview
Proposals should be for work in poor communities overseas which are supported by organisations with a significant presence in Northern Ireland. The scheme particularly invites applications:
For costs associated with volunteering programmes that focus particularly on the development and transfer of skills to poor entities and communities overseas
Which support sustainable indigenous projects overseas that enhance local, social and economic autonomy. Projects encouraging social enterprise and entrepreneurism will be particularly favoured.
Which help build the capacity of civil society representative organisations overseas that are working in areas of local basic social and economic rights.
PrinciplesActivities to be supported should demonstrate, where appropriate:Local people’s involvement in providing information, advice, and recommendations on project conceptualisation, design, and implementation.Partnerships with overseas indigenous entities, so that they are equipped to continue and develop the supported activities independently.Plans for post-project financial and organisational sustainability.Specific measurable criteria to assess their effectiveness.Equality of opportunity and sensitivity to cultural and other diversities, if relevant.Best professional practice in all aspects.
