Lifelong learning: Comenius
Overview
Through the Comenius programme your school or college could participate in a school partnership, staff could undertake in-service training and receive a professional development grant, or your institution could host a Comenius assistant.
Comenius School Partnerships
These partnerships enable pupils, students and staff from across Europe to work together on joint projects.
- Bilateral Partnerships - offer students aged over twelve the opportunity to become actively involved in a joint project with a European partner institution and include a reciprocal exchange for students.
- Multilateral partnerships - involve at least three schools or colleges from at least three European Countries.
- Comenius Regio Partnerships - to enable Local Authorities from different regions across Europe to work together on topics of mutual interest to strengthen community partnerships.
Comenius In-service Training
provides European in-service training for staff involved in school education and opportunities for trainee teachers. It also provides the opportunity to develop teaching resources. It may involve professional development courses, job shadowing or even a 2 week primary teachers project.
Comenius Assistants
This involves intending and trainee teachers who are placed in schools and colleges across Europe. They can help to enhance the European and cultural dimension across the curriculum, as well as offer classes in their native language. Placements may be from three to ten months.
Comenius Preparatory Visits
A Preparatory Visit enables you to meet your potential partners and discuss and develop your idea for a Comenius partnership together. Preparatory Visits give you the opportunity to start building the personal relationships on which a successful Comenius partnership depends. You should use the time together to start filling in the funding application for your project.
