Overview

A total amount of £30,000 to distribute comes from a partnership with The Funding Network and GiveOut, under the badge of City for LGBT+  - a live crowdfunding event which is held annually.

The aim of this Fund is to help LGBT+ global majority organisations to be resourced and equipped to support their communities.

"Global majority" is a collective term for people of African, Asian, Indigenous, Latin American, or mixed-heritage backgrounds, who constitute approximately 85 percent of the global population. We recognise the language they use reflects a diverse range of people and communities. They use them as inclusively as possible, but they appreciate that no one term or definition will resonate with all members of intersectional groups.

Who can apply

Applicants should be a UK based non-profit group or organisation that are majority led by and for LGBT+ people of the global majority.

This includes groups that support either all LGBT+ global majority people or LGBT+ people of a particular heritage/ethnicity from the global majority.

They understand that LGBT+ refugee and asylum seeker organisations may not always be majority run by LGBT+ people of the global majority due to the trauma and stress they may have endured, English not being their first language or not having settled status yet. In this instance, the group applying will need to demonstrate how they are strongly informed by the LGBT+ people of the global majority they support. LGBT+ Traveller organisations are eligible to apply for the fund.

You do not need to be a member of Consortium to be eligible to apply. Past recipients of grants from Consortium who have fulfilled all monitoring requirements and organisations currently in receipt of a grant from Consortium are eligible to apply.

All organisations should have good governance, appropriate financial management in place and high standards of safeguarding for staff, volunteers and those using their support or services, however they do recognise that smaller, grassroots organisations may not have all these structures in place. Contact their team if your organisation is missing relevant policy and governance document needed to apply, but your group meets the criteria and needs funds.

Outcomes

The funded work should aim to achieve one or more of the outcomes below (there is no requirement to seek to achieve them all):

  • Connecting people and communities
  • Creating safer communities
  • Improving health and wellbeing
  • Improving policymaking
  • Improved service provision

Example of grants they can award:

  • Activity and staff training costs for a group which supports the LGBT+ Black community to get out into nature in Scotland
  • Core costs for a community organization dedicated to connecting the LGBT+ Chinese community across the UK
  • Staff costs for an organisation which supports LGBT+ South Asian people in London

Funding Level & Notes

Grants range from £500 to £3000, and applicants are welcome to apply for the amount they need to undertake their work. All grants must be fully spent by 31 October 2026.

  • They are a flexible funder and can fund core costs, project costs and events. Smaller organisations will be prioritized over large organisations where a smaller amount of funding can go further.
  • If your organisation can demonstrate it has been doing amazing work and needs core funding, then inform them.
  • If your group wants to host a series of events, please apply
  • They are interested in hearing from groups who are new and needing support to thrive and grow.
    • They can fund new LGBT+ global majority groups within existing non-profit organisations if the work is led by and for the LGBT+ global majority community
