Landfill Communities Fund: Places of Worship/Architectural Importance
Overview
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling operators of landfill sites in England, Northern Ireland and Wales to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). EBs carry out projects in England, Northern Ireland and Wales that comply with the objectives (Objects) set out in The Landfill Tax Regulations 1996 (Regulations).
There are five main areas of work ('objects') that qualify for funding under the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
Object E: The repair, maintenance or restoration of a building or structure which is a place of religious worship or of historic or architectural interest.
Overarching Principles:
- The building or structure must be a place of religious worship, or of historic or architectural interest (listed status or equivalent);
- The building or structure must be open to the public; and.
- The building or structure must be in the vicinity of a landfill site.
Your project application will need to provide details of:
- the project site;
- the proposed works;
- how the proposed works will maintain, repair or restore a relevant building or structure;
- how the relevant building or structure is open to the public and when they will have access to it;
- how the building or structure is not operated with a view to profit;
- how far the project site is from a licensed landfill site; and
- how the proposed works are not required by a planning permission granted on the application of the Landfill Operator (LO), or as a term of a statutory agreement to which the LO is a party.
There are two methods of receiving funding through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF);
- from an Environmental Body (EB) that distributes the monies on a Landfill Operator's behalf (a distributive Environmental Body); or
- directly from a Landfill Operator (LO) based in England or Northern Ireland.
The majority of projects receive funding via a distributive EB and they would recommend applying to these organisations before seeking funding directly from a Landfill Operator.
You can find a list of EBs who may fund in your area using their funders search.
Entrust are the Government appointed regulator of the LCF and do not provide funding.
