Overview

Founded in 1997 by HRH The Prince of Wales, In Kind Direct distributes consumer goods donated by companies to UK charities working in the UK and overseas. They work with not-for-profit organisations and companies to help ensure that everyone has access to life's essentials and that no usable product goes to waste.

They distribute new, usable consumer goods, donated by some of the UK’s best known manufacturers and retailers, to charities, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises working in the UK and abroad.

And are a lifeline to thousands of charities helping vulnerable people across the UK, allowing them to spend more of their money on support, not supplies.

Since 1997, they have redistributed hundreds of millions of pounds worth of goods. They have received product donations from over 1,000 companies and delivered them to over 8,000 organisations. Every year they help improve the lives of 2 million people.

Type of Goods

Surplus goods that are donated to In Kind Direct are mainly new and unused items, which might be ends of lines, seasonal items, samples, customer returns, in damaged packaging or with slight defects. The type and amount of goods available at any one time changes in accordance with the goods we receive from our donors.Goods include:

  • toys, toiletries, tools and trainers;
  • household appliances and cleaning products;
  • clothes, shoes, sportswear and gear;
  • bedding and linen;
  • office supplies and equipment worth over £80 million in value of goods have been donated by 750 companies, and thousands of charities have benefited.

If you qualify then many of the goods you require can be obtained at very low cost, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of manufacturers and retailers which donate goods to In Kind Direct. All you pay for each pack of goods is the handling fee, which contributes to the costs of collecting, warehousing and delivering the goods to your door. On average this works out at around 10 - 20% of the actual value.
