Overview

Funding Priorities

The funding priorities of the Trust are:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Environment

The diversity of appeals presented to the Trust makes it very difficult to apply definite rules for selection. The Trustees are flexible in their approach and take into account the following when considering a project:

  • The degree to which the donation 'pump-primes' an initiative or project - i.e. helps to scale a new organisation or to develop a new area of work
  • The ability to effectively evaluate and monitor the long-term benefit created by the donation
  • Local involvement in overseas projects and local sourcing of any materials required
  • Involvement with a third party in overseas projects - for example ODA, NGO
  • Unduly excessive administration costs for a project or a Charity
  • Unduly excessive reserves or liquid assets held by the Charity
  • The extent to which the organisation has helped itself and sought to raise funds from other sources
  • Whether the applicant has been the subject of any adverse comment or action by the Charity Commission - If so full details must be provided

Funding

The Trust will typically make single donations (in a range of £2,000 to £10,000 and, in exceptional cases only, up to £20,000). In only a limited number of cases, it will consider multi-year applications (of up to 3 years) if supported by a robust project or business plan, with associated monitoring and reporting.

Education

The Trust supports projects which benefit people of all ages and backgrounds to advance education, aid delivery and widen educational/training opportunities throughout the world, with particular focus on emerging and developing economies and female educational opportunities. This can include formal education at all levels, vocational skills training to enhance employment opportunities, technical development (for example to teach IT skills), health and hygiene training and awareness. Projects can also include school building and renovation programmes.

The Trust likes to support projects to enhance awareness and to develop and educate communities in the area of family planning and menstrual health and hygiene.

Health

The Trust supports projects which benefit, improve and advance the health, wellbeing and life chances of people, communities and their environments across the world. This can include capital projects to build or refurbish health centres, clinics and hospitals, to construct WASH facilities, to provide mobile health posts, to purchase essential equipment, to provide generators for hospitals or clinics and to upskill healthcare staff in new methods or techniques.

A wide variety of healthcare projects are supported.

Environment

The Trust supports projects involved in the conservation, improvement and regeneration of the natural environment. This includes environmental awareness, biodiversity, sustainability and initiatives to combat climate change and further carbon capture. Projects can include tree planting, rewilding, protection of habitats and farm sustainability.

The Trust does not support projects involving animal welfare or heritage sites and buildings.
