IFAW Unsolicited Grants Programme
Overview
To determine whether your project or activities fall within IFAW's strategic objectives, review the IFAW program descriptions. They will consider your request in the context of those objectives as well as the internal activities and external grants currently underway. Only those proposals that directly address IFAW's goals as outlined in the program descriptions will be considered for funding.
The only proposals that are likely to result in a grant award must
- closely match IFAW's current priorities and present a unique opportunity to enhance and further IFAW's efforts; and
- clearly demonstrate the organization's ability to manage funds and successfully implement the proposed project. Decisions to make any grant award are subject to availability of funds in any given year.
There is a small annual UK discretionary grant of approximately £10k that is set aside for local community projects dealing with local wildlife. This is limited to maximum grant of £2k which are one off grants, and not for capital or staff costs.
International Fund for Animal Welfare Program Descriptions
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) works to improve the welfare of wild and domestic animals throughout the world by reducing commercial exploitation of animals, protecting wildlife habitats, and assisting animals in distress. The following program areas represent IFAW's current strategic focus for helping animals:
ANIMALS IN CRISIS AND DISTRESS (AICD)
This program works to:
- reduce the number of animals around the world in confinement and captivity;
- aid animals who are victims of natural disasters or those arising from human activities;
- and focus attention on companion animals.
WILDLIFE HABITAT PROGRAM (WHP)
a. Commercial exploitation and trade of wild animals
This global program focuses on reducing the number of wild animals commercially exploited and traded in the international market, thereby decreasing the probability that populations will become endangered or suffer unnecessary cruelty.
b. Habitat for animals
This program intends to use habitat protection, where appropriate, as a tool for improving the welfare of animals, through identification of animals in each region particularly threatened with cruelty, suffering and population depletion as a result of habitat destruction.
How to Apply
Unfortunately, IFAW is not currently accepting unsolicited grant requests.
IFAW generally solicits proposals from partner organisations with which they have developed or intend to develop a close and ongoing collaboration in order to further specific objectives in fulfilment of IFAW's mission. Therefore,
IFAW does not tend to encourage the submission of unsolicited proposals as the majority of grants are targeted at organisations the IFAW collaborate with to work on their priority species, namely elephants, whales, seals, commercial wildlife trade.
