Overview

The Society for Disabled Artists (SODA) Bursaries are open to hospice and palliative care professionals employed within hospices and will fund study to gain Art and Music Therapy qualifications.

Individuals can apply for a maximum of 50% of course or module fees, up to £1,500 in any one year – subject to funds being available.

Eligible Individuals

All applicants must be a hospice or palliative care professional working in an eligible organisation. Roles include:

  • Allied Health Professional (Including Art Therapist and Music Therapist)
  • Nurse
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Doctor
  • Social Worker
  • Bereavement Counsellor
  • Spiritual Care Worker
  • Pharmacist
  • Complementary Therapists.

Applicants would need to demonstrate how the course would improve patient outcomes.

Eligible Organisations

Hospices that are members of Hospice UK based in the UK, the Channel Islands or Isle of Man.

They encourage matched funding to be committed by the hospice or raised from another funder.

Examples of eligible courses

Bursaries are offered towards the costs of course fees for accredited courses. Example courses could include:

  • MSc in Music Therapy
  • BA in Art Therapy
  • MA in Music Therapy
  • Art Therapy Supervision Diploma
  • CPD accredited Art or Music Therapy Courses

If your course is not included, please contact the Grants Team at Hospice UK to discuss eligibility for funding before you apply. 
 

General Criteria

  • SODA Bursaries are open to hospice and palliative care professionals employed within hospices and will fund study to gain Art and Music Therapy qualifications.
  • Applications must be received at Hospice UK at least one month before the start of the course or module.
  • Bursaries must be claimed within twelve months of the award being made. Hospice UK reserves the right to withdraw funding on bursaries older than 12 months.
  • Applications can be made for individual modules or a particular year of multi-year courses. A new application form must be submitted for each subsequent year or module and must be received by the Grants Team at least a month before the start of the next year or further modules.
  • They encourage matched funding to be committed by the hospice or raised from another funding source.
  • Staff employed in member hospices (both adult and children’s) in the UK are eligible.
  • Once the budget for the SODA Bursary programme has been fully allocated they will cease to award any further bursaries, until such a time as additional funds have been raised.
