Grow Wild: Youth Awards
Overview
Get Creative
They are looking for imaginative ideas that raise awareness about the importance of UK native wild flowers and plants using visual art or music, poetry and dance. Winning applicants will receive £500 to produce their creative artwork or to record their audio performance, plus the chance to exhibit or perform it outdoors at a high profile UK summer event.
Applications are open under two ‘Get Creative’ categories:
Visual art - to produce a large piece of art to be displayed outdoors. It can have a three-dimensional element, though we must be able to hang the artwork flat on a wall. In your application you will need to describe what you want to do, your inspiration and how your idea demonstrates the importance of UK native wild flowers and wild spaces.
Audio/performance – to produce a piece of music, dance or spoken word to a performance standard. In your application you will need to describe the inspiration behind your creative idea and say how your performance will demonstrate the importance of UK native wild flowers and wild spaces.
Entries for this competition are invited under two age categories:
- under 18s (for age 12 to 17)
- over 18s (for age 18 to 25)
Please note: if you turn age 18 by 1 June 2016 please enter the over 18s category.
Transform a Space
Do you have a brilliant idea for transforming a communal space near you? Do you want to get together with others for some wild sowing and planting action? Young people aged 12 to 25 can apply for a £500 Transform a Space award.
They’re looking for project ideas that raise awareness about the importance of native wild flowers and plants and their diverse habitats. Your project can involve more than sowing and growing – as long as it communicates a message about UK native wild flowers and wild spaces in a creative way. Think wild, innovative and eye catching!
Don’t have a piece of land to sow? Don’t fret, consider some other creative ideas including:
- Moveable meadows! Think pots, old wellies, even wheelbarrows! Wild flower container options are endless.
- Art and craft, for example, street art, sculpture, murals, mosaics, upcycling, decorative containers, even knitting!
- Fun events, such as wild flower cycle tours, interesting workshops, interactive games or treasure trails.
Grow Wild is there to support you, so even if you are a novice and have never grown wild flowers, help is at hand. Please get in touch if you need some advice or want to discuss your project idea.
To help you get started on your space Grow Wild will give you a free seed kit containing enough native wild flower seed for sowing up to 10m2.
Eligibility
