Overview

About the Trust

The Gallaher Trust is unique in that its actions are focussed solely on benefitting the Ballymena community and enriching the lives of those who live there. Since the Trust’s inception in September 2017, a total of £2.25 million has been committed to improve that community.

The Gallaher Trust, to date, has supported 14 delivery partners across 22 projects and is committed to creating over 400 jobs, developing skills for over 1,600 adults and supporting over 1,500 disadvantaged adults by 2025.

Purpose of the Fund

The Trust aims to support a small number of high value projects over a longer-term period (of up to three years) in the following areas:

  • Job Creation and / or Skills Development Projects which will help the development of both new and existing businesses (individual project value normally not less than £50,000 per annum)
  • Projects supporting Disadvantaged Adults (individual project value around £10,000 - £20,000 per annum)

The Trust has an annual budget of around £300,000 for granting awards, which is normally allocated as follows:

  • Job Creation / Skills Development Projects - annual budget £230,000
  • Disadvantaged adults - annual budget £70,000

In addition to welcoming applications via their website, they also actively seek projects that meet their objectives.

The Trust has also established educational scholarship schemes with their partners Northern Regional College (NRC), Supporting Communities and Ulster Farmers’ Union. For more information, please visit www.thegallahertrust.org.

Eligibility for Awards

  • They can only support applications that are aligned to the Trust’s objectives of promoting job creation and skills development and providing support to disadvantaged adults
  • Organisations applying for support must be run for charitable purposes or on a social enterprise / not-for-profit basis. (Organisations do not have to be registered charities but must show evidence of formal structure and sound governance).
  • The project must benefit those living in the wider Ballymena area, however, applicants can be part of a national or international charity
  • Awards can be used in conjunction with other funding sources you may have already secured. The Trust would not normally expect applicants to ask for 100% funding for a project
