Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Grant Aid: Ulster Scots Language Leid Week 2024
Overview
Leid Week is an opportunity to explore Ulster Scots language and the role that it plays in the lives of its speakers and the place that it has within the wider community.
During the week events are held across Northern Ireland to promote Ulster Scots language and celebrate its contribution to the rich and diverse cultural landscape of the country.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council invites community groups to apply for funding of up to £200 to hold events during Leid Week 2024.
The Council welcomes proposals for events that raise awareness of Ulster Scots language in creative and engaging ways.
Funding period: 25 November to 29 November 2024.
Events must take place during Leid Week 25-29 November 2024.
Programme Specific Criteria
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council defines an event as: “An organised special occasion and activity of limited duration that brings people together for the primary purpose of participating in an uplifting community, cultural, recreational, sporting, artistic or entertaining experience”.Events for Leid Week must focus on one or more of the following:
- raise awareness of the Ulster Scots language
- promote greater understanding of the Ulster Scots language
- offer opportunities to learn and/or use the Ulster Scots language.
Examples of events include, but are not limited to:
- Ulster Scots language learning and/or language awareness events/activities;
- language learning and educational resources, both digital and/or printed publications;
- musical or song-based events/projects which are predominantly language-focused;
- lectures, talks, or presentations in or about the Ulster Scots language;
- drama and/or performance events/activities in or about the Ulster Scots language;
- storytelling and/or poetry readings in or about the Ulster Scots language;
- author or writer-led events which showcase the author’s original work in or about the Ulster Scots language and/or which explore the Ulster Scots literary tradition;
- creative writing events in or about the Ulster Scots language;
- digital content, including audio, video, and/or multimedia content in or about the Ulster Scots language which can be shared on the web, social media and other platforms.
The following conditions are attached:
- Ulster Scots Language must be central to the event.
- Events must take place in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.
- Events must be free of charge to participants.
- Events must take place between 25-29 November 2024.
- St Andrew’s Day events are not eligible.
- Fermanagh and Omagh District Council must be recognised in any publicity.
- Events will be advertised by the Council on its media platforms.
- Any changes to the agreed event must be approved by the Council.
- The group/organisation must have the necessary insurance cover in place for the event.
- Maximum amount £200 per group.
- Refreshments will only be awarded up to a maximum of 20% of grant aid allocation.
- Tutors/Facilitators must be external to the organisation and capped at £25 maximum p/hr.
Scoring Criteria
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Good Relations Grant Programme supports, encourages and facilitates activities which enhance and develop community relations within the district, and which promote good relations between persons of different political opinion, racial group or religious belief. Applicants must provide information on the proposed event – date/time/event activity and demonstrate how the event will make a positive contribution to the visibility and appreciation of Ulster Scots language in their community. 1. Event description – tell them the date/time will it take place, what is the activity, where will it take place, who is the target audience, how many people will attend the event?2. Visibility and understanding of Ulster Scots language – tell them how your event relates to the aim of Ulster Scots Language Week to increase visibility and understanding of Ulster Scots language. Assessment of applications will be made using a system that measures and scores 0-5 on how the event contributes to the promotion and understanding of Ulster Scots language.
