Children in Need Positive Destinations
Overview
Positive Destinations is an exceptional grants programme, additional to BBC Children in Need's normal grants programme in conjunction with the Hunter Foundation, for organisations working with the most vulnerable children and young people from early years up to and including age 18.
Positive Destinations is a £2-million grant programme working with projects taking place over three years. It is a UK-wide programme which aims to make three larger grants and three smaller grants.
The types of organisations they are seeking applications from include:
- Prevention projects that focus on working with the most vulnerable children and young people at demonstrable high risk of falling into the group of children and young people who are not in education, employment or training.
- Projects that focus on targeted intervention activities with children and young people who are not in education, training or employment.
- Projects that are child-centred and have a holistic or integrated approach which provide a single point of contact for children and young people.
- Projects that will extend techniques to new areas, based on a proven track record of success working with this group or illustrate how they are best placed to pilot a new approach with this group.
- Projects that are innovative and break new ground in this field.
- Projects that meaningfully take into account the views of the target group of children and young people and actively involve them in the design and delivery of the project, as well as in decisions which affect them.
- Projects that will demonstrate their impacts through measurable quantitative and qualitative indicators.
- Projects that will agree to include a focus on dissemination of learning both during and at the end of the project as part of our evaluation.
- Either single organisations or collaborative and partnership/consortium projects, provided there is a clearly identified lead partner which will be the grant holder and accountable for delivery and reporting.
- Projects that can demonstrate how they will leverage their work to have a wider strategic impact, such as influencing policy and practice in the field.
- Projects that will take place over a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years but also demonstrate longer term sustainability once the grant has been utilised.
- Smaller Grants: They are looking for a range of projects and invite applications for grants in the range of (but not necessarily limited to) £125,000 - £175,000. They will award in the region of three grants totalling £500,000 over three years.
- Larger Grants: We are looking for a range of projects and invite applications for grants of up to £500,000 over three years. We will award three grants totalling £1.5 million over three years.
Funding will be based on achieving key milestones (performance targets which are based on project plans). Any or all instalments of grants may be withheld if BBC Children in Need and The Hunter Foundation determine that the key milestones have not been fulfilled.
Applications are welcomed from organisations that;
- are focused on the most at risk and vulnerable children and young people in preventing them from falling out of education, training or employment.
- are working with children and young people of any age ranging from early years up to and including those aged 18.
- are not for profit. We will welcome applications from single organisations (i.e. voluntary organisations, community groups and registered charities) or from partnerships/consortium. We are looking for a lead agency which will take overall responsibility for the delivery and reporting of the project. Statutory agencies can be part of a partnership/consortium application, but they cannot be the lead agency in the application.
- operate within the UK, including Channel Islands & Isle of Man.
- Organisations will need to have a constitution, audited accounts (as legally required by the Charities Commission, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or other relevant bodies) and a child protection policy as a minimum.
