Overview

The Charities Advisory Trust are willing to consider applications for any charitable purpose.

Nearly all their grants are made because they have prior knowledge of the project or area of concern. In most cases the idea for the project comes from the trust; they work with suitable organizations to achieve their objectives.

They rarely respond to unsolicited applications for projects of which they know nothing. In such cases where support is given, the amounts are usually £200 or less.

Aims

They are dedicated to finding practical methods of redressing inequalities and injustice.

The trust is involved in the following schemes:

  • Card Aid - They established the Charity Christmas Card
  • Scrooge Awards - Highlights how much goes to charities form charity cards.
  • Charity Shops - established the charity shop group and the charity shops handbook
  • Grant Giving - Pro-actively funds up to £500,000 each year
  • Good Gifts catalogue - e.g. Gifts for goats etc
  • The Green Hotel - sustainable tourism for charitable and environmental projects in India
  • Peace Oil - getting Middle East nationalities to work together
  • Slim Peace - getting women of different nationalities together to slim
  • Museum trading - help museums and galleries with trading
  • Development from the inside - involves working in international development
  • Medical Student Electives - lets medical students work in India
  • Employment and Volunteering opportinities

Example Grants
The range of projects supported in the past is eclectic. They have bought a Tea plantation for a tribal community in India; funded research in the prevention of blindness; supported initiatives for peace in the middle east; funded tree planting in urban areas; helped NGO's in Grenada and Sarajevo.
