Overview

The 2014-2015 Community Festival Fund is open to all community groups /organisations operating a local community based festival, within the Castlereagh Borough Council area, during the period 1 April 2014 – 31 March 2015.

Funding is available for community festivals taking place within the Castlereagh Borough Council’s government district that focus on:

  • arts and heritage activities

  • other cultural events that contribute to the cultural identity of an area or group and celebrate the uniqueness of that area or group.

The Community Festival Fund Programme is 50% funded by the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL) and match funded by Castlereagh Borough Council.

Groups can potentially access grant funding up to a maximum of £5,000 under the Community Festival Fund Programme, subject to the fund terms and conditions.

The Fund is designed to recognise the role that festivals can play in increasing social cohesion, celebrating cultural identity and strengthening community relations. Community festivals are about participation, involvement, and the creation of a sense of identity, and are important in contributing to the social well-being of a local area. The festival can be promoted through a number of measures including sports, arts and cultural diversity.
