BT (NI) Plc CSR Policy
Overview
BT (NI) were raked 16th in the Belfast Telegraph Top 100 Companies in Northern Ireland in 2012 with a pre-tax loss of £700,000.
The CSR Policy of BT is very much driven on a UK-wide level through high level programmes and partnerships such as the BTMydonate (a rival fundraising platform to Virgin Money Giving and Justgiving).
BT are keen to help charities working in areas that use communications to make a difference, e.g. in education, with children, and for communities that may be digitally excluded. They try to provide simple, no-cost ways to help our customers raise money for charity, and we involve our suppliers and business partners too.
Charity Partnerships: BT supports many charities, and we place real value on these relationships. We’ve been able to help charities meet some of their goals, and in turn they have helped us to innovate, improve our business and expand our skills.
Community Champions Awards: BT run in-house schemes like the Community Champions Awards, which provides grants of up to £500 to voluntary organisations our people are involved with.
Global Disaster Relief: When natural disasters strike effective communication is vital. People need to make contact with loved ones, and aid agencies must get the right equipment to the right place at the right time. BT takes pride in being flexible and responsive to charities’ needs, and we use our equipment and skills to establish vital voice and data links as speedily as possible.
BT Employees Payroll Giving: BT’s payroll giving scheme is one more way employees can use to support charities of their choice. The scheme allows employees to give tax efficiently directly from pay. BT covers its admin costs. In 2010, BT employees gave more than £2.5 million directly to their own chosen charities this way. This was boosted with a further £1 million donation from BT. BT runs the scheme in the UK, the United States, Spain and Ireland and it’s used by more than 11,800 employees.
Employee Fundraising: BT's volunteering programme encourages our people to use their energy and skills to make a difference to charities and in their local community. Each employee can volunteer three days of work time for a cause they are passionate about. Since the programme was launched in 2009, employees have contributed more than 28,000 days (with an estimated value of £9.4m) to a range of charities, local communities and social enterprises.
BT Benevloent Fund: BT even has its own in-house charity, the BT Benevolent Fund, which helps current and former employees and their dependants who are experiencing hardship. The generosity of BT people raises around £600,000 each year to support this work.
