The BFI provides funding for film and TV development and production, which includes international co-productions and completion funding.

BFI Filmmaking Fund - Discovery and Impact feature funding

Awarding National Lottery funding to support original live action and animated feature filmmaking.

Who can apply

Producers can apply for the following: 

  • Discovery feature funding provides awards of up to £1,000,000 for projects with debut directors and a production budget between £1,000,000 and £3,500,000
  • Impact feature funding provides awards of up to £1,250,000 for projects with:
    • experienced directors with production budgets above £1,000,000
    • debut directors with production budgets above £3,500,000 

BFI DOC SOCIETY FUND

The BFI Doc Society Fund supports and nurtures independent non-fiction film and immersive projects by UK filmmakers, prioritising expansive, director-led storytelling.

UK Global Screen Fund: International Co-production strand

Supporting UK producers to work as partners on international co-productions and help create new global projects. Independent UK producers with demonstrable production experience can apply for grants of up to £300,000.

BFI National Lottery Creative Challenge Fund

Awarding National Lottery funding to development programmes for creatives.
