Overview

Celebrate gives people the chance to come together, whether that’s to mark something important to their community like The Queen’s 90th Birthday, commemorate a historic local event, or simply get to know their neighbours better. Big Lottery Fund want to celebrate what makes their local community great. Building stronger neighbourhoods can help tackle social isolation and boost community spirit.

£555,000 is avialable for projects in Northern Ireland with applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis until all funds are awarded.

You can apply if you are a:

  • Voluntary or community organisation with a constitution and bank account
  • School
  • Statutory body.

They are especially keen to receive applications from new groups who may not have applied to them before.

While you can apply for funding more than once, priority may be given to those organisations that haven’t already received a grant through Celebrate.

  • You will need to show that your project is open and will be accessible to everyone in your local community.
  • They will give higher priority to organisations that have a low income.
  • They will fund activities that bring people together to celebrate their local community.

In your application they would like to know:

  • how the project will bring people together in the community to celebrate
  • why the activity is something your local community wants and
  • how you can demonstrate it is led by the people within it.

This is an example of a project that might be funded under Celebrate:

Kabalikat received a £4,500 grant from Awards for All to hold the first Filipino lantern festival in Derry/Londonderry, bringing some sparkle to the city and celebrating its friendliness and diversity. The Lantern Parade was a free family event, with traditional Filipino dance and food, as well as music and games.
