Purpose of the fund
The Belfast City Council Zero Waste Community Grant Scheme has a vision of achieving zero waste direct to landfill and increasing our recycling rates. We have set ourselves this target and we aim to achieve it through working with and for the residents and communities of Belfast.
We aim to reduce the levels of waste arising in Belfast, increase recycling and promote the idea of waste as a resource. The purpose of the Zero Waste Community Grant Scheme is to encourage and support activities that will help us realise this vision.
Our main objective is to promote waste prevention, divert material away from landfill disposal and to engage with residents so that they fully participate in recycling schemes, leading to an increase in the recycling rate to help us reach our recycling targets.
Eligible Project Costs
1. The project must be aimed at increasing the city’s household recycling rate, landfill diversion and/or waste prevention. Projects which seek to address commercial waste will not be included.
2. Organisations which intend to carry, store or process waste must have the necessary waste management licences or exemptions in place at time of submission of the application form.
