Overview

From hip hop to samba, classical to jazz, the Community Music scheme aims to help not for profit community music groups the length and breadth of the UK to carry out training, attract new audiences, encourage new members and raise their profile in their community.

Community groups looking to apply for a grant as part of the scheme can either apply for up to £5,000 for a development project (Option 1) OR up to £10,000 for a project that includes the commission of a new piece of music (Option 2). However, the average grant awarded will probably be less than the maximum allowed under each option.

We’re looking for applications from groups working across all ages and all genres. We want to encourage groups to take on more challenging projects and to collaborate with professional artists and other local organisations.

How to Apply

Applications for the scheme will open at 10am on 21 May 2012, and close either at 5pm on 29th June 2012 OR when we have received the first 500 eligible applications, whichever is the soonest. This is because the BBC Performing Arts Fund has a charitable obligation to keep its core administrational costs to a minimum and as such we have a limited capacity of applications we can assess. As a result of our recently raised profile we are expecting more applications than in previous years.

The application process consists of three stages:

  • Stage One: Proof of Eligibility – Groups should complete an online Eligibility Quiz which will be available on the website from 10am Monday 21st May. The deadline for getting supporting documentation to us is 5.00pm 22nd June 2012.
  • Stage Two: Application Form – Groups should submit an online application form. Applications for the scheme will close either at 5pm on 29th June 2012 OR when we have received the first 500 eligible applications, whichever is the soonest.
  • Stage Three: Selection Process and Grant – Applications from those Groups that have proven their eligibility and submitted an online application form will now be assessed. The highest scoring Groups will be approved by the BBC PAF and grants will be paid.
