Grants for Sports Clubs
The Council's sports development grant aid scheme has been developed to enable sports clubs within the Banbridge District to progress to a level they desire. Five types of grants are available to sports groups under the Council's sports development grant aid scheme. They include core funding, minor sports events, facility improvements, Junior Club development grant and representative sporting clubs.
The Sport Strategy focuses on the following key areas:
- Young people
- Targeting under representatives groups, generally.
- Priority sports: Badminton, Dance/Fitness, Gaelic Games, Ladies Hockey, Netball, Soccer (mini and girls) and swimming.
- Voluntary sport and club development.
- Coach and volunteer development.
- Local communities and capacity building - facility development.
- Work with schools.
- Fitness activities specifically aimed at encouraging girls aged 13-16 to take more exercise.
- Disability sport.
- Health
Types of Grants Available under the Sports Development Programme
- Core Funding: Annual Core Funding Grants are awarded to groups that assist the Council to deliver services viz Banbridge District Sports Association, Youth Sport South and the Southern Sports Partnership, in return for representation of Councillors and Officials on appropriate committees.
- Minor Sports Events: Each event is considered on its merits in terms of scale and development sport within the District.
- Junior Club Development Grant: The purpose of this award is to support clubs in the District who are committed to working with juniors in a structured, child centred manner. Clubs applying for this grant will have to demonstrate their commitment to juniors by attending a Junior Club Development Course and submitting a junior club development plan detailing its aims, objectives and proposed actions over a two year period. The development plan should be recognised by the relevant governing body. Clubs must also have a child protection policy in place and have trained personnel. Generally one grant up to a maximum £500 will be awarded normally at the Junior Sports Awards Evening each year. The award will be presented to a different club each year. Applications should be submitted by the 31st March each year.
- Representative Sporting Clubs: Consideration will be given to sports clubs who will be representing Northern Ireland or Ireland outside the UK. Special consideration may be given to Junior Clubs representing Northern Ireland or Ireland within Great Britain.

Eligibility
To qualify for grant aid from the Council’s Sports Development grant aid scheme groups must demonstrate that they are one of the following:Community organisations such as voluntary sports clubs/committees/ schools/youth groups.Groups/organisations which organise and/or provide a unique/valuable service in the area of sport, within or impacts positively on the Banbridge District Council area.
